Unraveling the Artistry: Exploring the Diverse Tapestry of Italian Tailoring

Every tailoring 'house' around the world has its own signature style; More so traditionally perhaps. In England and The United States, these styles tend to be collective. You might hear the terms, 'English Classic', 'English Contemporary', 'New Ivy', 'Southern Style'. Italy, however, collates a whole universe of different craftsmanship styles, in one modestly sized country. Below, we'll get into the different regions and their well known and loved differing approaches to the art of bespoke tailoring.  

Italy has a rich tradition of tailoring, and different regions of the country have their own unique         styles and techniques. Here's an overview of tailoring in various regions of Italy:

  1. Naples (Campania): Naples is renowned for its distinctive tailoring style known as "Neapolitan tailoring." Neapolitan jackets are characterized by soft shoulders, a lightweight construction, and a high armhole. The jackets are typically unlined or only partially lined, allowing for greater comfort and freedom of movement. The Neapolitan style also emphasizes a slightly shorter jacket length, wide lapels, and a more relaxed fit overall.


  2. Milan (Lombardy): Milan is known as one of the fashion capitals of the world, and its tailoring tradition reflects a more cosmopolitan and modern aesthetic. Milanese tailoring tends to be sleek, precise, and structured. The emphasis is on clean lines, sharp cuts, and a slimmer silhouette. An industry review of 'True Style' by G.Bruce Boyer.  Firstly, let me just say at £20.99, this little bible of knowledge is a worthwhile investment for any man remotely interested in the basic rules of mens dress. I'd go as far as to say it is a masterclass in its field. With decent reviews from Town and Country Magazine, Francesco Barberis Canonico, Drake's London and the The Armoury; one gets the feel that this will be a good informative read. Boyer does not disappoint - This book does exactly what it says on the tin. Boyer's opening chapter, 'Ascots', follows on from a concise insight into the book by the man himself. Ascots; the proper term for neckwear is a nice ice breaker, reminding us of the often overlooked accessory options for men. Chapters 3,10, 18 and 20 cover the adornment of other areas of the body.
